Alan Fish is a British singer-songwriter, born and brought up in England, but now living and working on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides.

Alan enjoys performing all types of music. His first musical experience was singing in a church choir, and he has sung in many classical choirs and ensembles. He has also fronted a swing band and played tenor sax. But he is probably most content when playing guitar and singing folk with friends in small clubs and pubs, over a pint or two. You might find him in The New Lewis on the first Thursday of the month.

Alan has been writing songs since he was a teenager. As a student in the 70s he sang a lot of songs by Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Nick Drake, Leonard Cohen and Paul Simon. Other important influences are J J Cale, Randy Newman and Tom Waits. His first album - Yes Why Not - shows a wide range of styles: modern folk edging towards trad, jazz, blues, rock or latin. All of the artists playing on the album are local musicians and personal friends.

When he’s not making music, Alan works in business applications of artificial intelligence, and has published a book on the subject. Alan's great loves are his family, food, foreign places, science, art, and music of all types but preferably live.
