Alessandro Butera (1983) is a guitarist and composer from Procida. A self-taught musician, he plays various instruments in addition to the guitar, including the Mohan veena and the Turkish kanun.
He is the founder of several musical groups, including Malhuma, Samādhi Septet, and Piccoli Fiori Swing. Since 2017, he has served as the artistic director of the Raduno Jazz Manouche di Procida festival.
For eight years, Butera taught modern guitar and a Jazz/Funk laboratory at the A.R.P.A. music school in Rome. From 2016 to 2019, he founded and directed the Collettivo Jazz Manouche di Roma, initiating numerous collaborations with some of the most important jazz clubs in the capital.
He has performed at various international festivals, as well as in numerous jazz clubs and theaters across Europe. He composed the music for the documentary L’oro del mare by Elisabetta Montaldo, and is also part of the cast for the theatrical production Così fan tutte, a Neapolitan adaptation of Mozart’s opera, under the artistic direction of Mario Tronco (Avion Travel, Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio).
