Alex Bechtel is a multi-disciplinary artist, dedicated to the creation of new works of music, theatre, and musical theatre.
Bechtel was born in Reading, Pennsylvania and is currently based in New York City. Since graduating from The University of the Arts in 2008, Bechtel's music has been featured in everything from devised theatre, to the plays of Shakespeare, to independent films, to musical theatre.
He is the recipient of 7 Barrymore Awards, an Independence Fellowship, and the 2026 Richard Rodgers Award for his musical PENELOPE. His work has been given critics' choice reviews in The New York Times, TimeOut New York, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and many other publications.
