Alfie Firmin

Once a member of London-based folk-rock band <a href="spotify:artist:06FPH5hd44RMFq8mlkPyX2" data-name="Vestiges">Vestiges</a> in his late teens, Southend-on-Sea’s Alfie Firmin embarked on a solo career in the latter half of the 2010s. He established his songwriting style and full-band approach on his first two solo albums, 2018’s <a href="spotify:album:0iuBWaXli7KRKiC6Dr32WR" data-name="Setting Sun">Setting Sun</a> and 2020’s <a href="spotify:album:6GxJbcLlJma1aBadS7b4wV" data-name="Waiting On">Waiting On</a>, which showcased warm, California-evoking folk-rock arrangements of electric guitars, lap steel and vintage organs.

2023 saw the release of <a href="spotify:album:08gm8SVtBrxM9pgM1j2UqQ" data-name="Absentee">Absentee</a> on celebrated indie label Bobo Integral which received praise from AllMusic, BBC Introducing and Colours Through The Air for its understated and melodic guitar pop with hints of &#39;60s and &#39;70s Americana and Soul.

<a href="spotify:album:4fVSlqqBPQPt4DJgOBbPRB" data-name="This Time Around">This Time Around</a> followed in the summer of 2024. The album saw Alfie embracing the piano more frequently as a songwriting tool, and was described by Dead Good Music as “short, sharp and intelligent pop with a distinct ’70s vibe.”

Alfie’s music has been compared favourably to that of folk-rock luminaries <a href="spotify:artist:5mFKYdmiYwNJTDtSzgFyQx" data-name="Andy Shauf">Andy Shauf</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2wXBWJhbm1gfEVjyEEuhDH" data-name="Ron Sexsmith">Ron Sexsmith</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:38euc5ce2q2MMzaoJcPstz" data-name="Josh Rouse">Josh Rouse</a>. He has performed both solo and with his band across the UK and internationally.

Continuing a prolific string of releases in recent years, Alfie’s fifth, self-titled full-length album is set for release on 11 July. It was produced by fellow Southend-on-Sea-based singer-songwriter <a href="spotify:artist:67JzHdLf5Pm5fyKMPn3OMQ" data-name="Ted Groves">Ted Groves</a>.
