Growing up taking refuge in the likes of Nina Simone, Lily Allen, and The Beatles, the ritz and rubble of classic voices and glamour often proved a safe haven for singer Alfie Sharp. Infecting his voice and storytelling with a unique charisma and charm that cuts timeless and cinematic pop-noir melodies and soundscapes.
Surviving and thriving on the margins of a Nottingham council estate where he grew up, Alfie developed a keen ear and eye for his own culture and space. Writing songs and weaving stories of corruption and excess that rival golden-age Hollywood drama and of classical British kitchen sink dramas, Alfie has created a special body of work that wields his infection, aesthetic and sense of self with guile beyond his years.
Fronted as Spotify’s RADAR first listen artist, Alfie has just released his long-awaited, critically acclaimed debut EP. A collection of songs built and honed throughout adolescence and into early adulthood, and rooted in bittersweet places and physicalities. Touching on topics such as mental health, relationships, and council estate politics all with grace and sensitivity, Alfie has created what can only be described as a truly special body of work that is both perfectly of the moment, and entirely timeless.
