Hutch's life is "marked by obsessions, healthy and unhealthy" - and jazz piano was the first. Feeling like an "outsider" amongst those his own age, drugs and drinking became a quick way to find connection, replacing music as a means of escape - but the chaos of addiction crept in quietly, eating away at purpose and joy.
Sobriety didn't come through luck, but surrender. He withdrew completely and accepted that he had to change everything in his life. "I took myself away. You can't build from the middle of chaos".
Hutch's debut single Never Like The First Time captures the raw essence of rebirth. It's a song about survival and the cost of it. "Chaos, honesty, vulnerability, that's the point, I want people to hear the dark bits as much as the shiny bits, because that's where the real connection happens. Music is a way for me to process the things I've struggled with."
