Ali Hassan Kuban (1929–2001) was a pioneering Egyptian musician known as the "Father of Nubian Jazz." Born in Qawra, Old Nubia, he moved to Cairo in 1944, where he began his musical journey. Kuban blended traditional Nubian music with Western instruments like the saxophone, electric guitar, and trumpet, creating a unique and vibrant sound. He gained international recognition in the 1980s, performing at prestigious festivals in Germany, the U.S., and beyond. His fusion of Nubian rhythms and modern jazz captivated global audiences, earning him acclaim and awards throughout his career.
