Combining the intimacy of blues with the anger of pop-punk, Ali Reyis is no stranger to the collision of two worlds. Growing up Turkish in Australia, Reyis always felt like an outsider, channelling this angst into the fusion of emo music and the acoustic guitar while sitting in his bedroom at college in Western Sydney. “Taking sonic notes from the likes of <a href="spotify:artist:4ERtgeBbWRkFzIz6LaFCeY" data-name="Dashboard Confessional">Dashboard Confessional</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:74gcBzlQza1bSfob90yRhR" data-name="City and Colour">City and Colour</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6melTVZFYp3m5UU72sIhdY" data-name="John Floreani">John Floreani</a>, Ali fuses elements of folk, country and blues into his own brand of emo,” reported The Partae. As time went on, one thing never changed: they were always sad songs.
From 2016-2018, Reyis recorded three acoustic albums under the name "Hawkeye Reis" with Borna Crvelin, Tim Fitz (<a href="spotify:artist:6AawJaQO4i99Be2A3w7BTW" data-name="Middle Kids">Middle Kids</a>) and Jem Hoppe-Smith (Electric Avenue Studios). In 2019, Reyis rebranded and toured Australia, playing with artists including <a href="spotify:artist:4b0IQ13sf50hpCEdPeOhZ0" data-name="A Swift Farewell">A Swift Farewell</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6kjeGCpuvh75Q0pIniDvQO" data-name="Capitol Affair">Capitol Affair</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:15KeU227k33MPNHfEvwVJV" data-name="Georgia Marley">Georgia Marley</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6Lgj14UUAFQTnRFATVYS91" data-name="Southey">Southey</a>, before heading to the US.
