London born Amanda Homi is an accomplished singer and percussionist, award-winning songwriter, and a global explorer. She began her musical career at the age of eighteen, singing Rembetika, the underworld soul songs of Greece, in the glittering nightclubs of Athens. A lifetime adventurer, fascinated by the many worlds of rhythm and traditions, Amanda has studied folkloric dance and percussion in Bahia, Brazil and Dakar, Senegal, and was embedded in the Gypsy Flamenco scene in the southwest of Spain. She has collaborated with the meditative Gnawa musicians in Morocco, and written and recorded Reggae songs in Jamaica.
Dedicated to preserving cultural heritage, especially the contributions of female, artists, she co-produced and edited a documentary about Latin Grammy lifetime achievement award recipient, the Colombian folkloric singer, Toto La Momposina.
Amanda is a founding member of VKBband, an all female trio, reinventing the songs of Tom Waits. The band can be seen touring Europe and the US.
In it’s streaming debut, “Lorca’s Desire”, written from the imagined point of view of Lorca, begins and ends by echoing Lorca's thoughts with a stanza from his poem "Ditty of First Desire: "In the green morning/I wanted to be a heart/And in the ripe evening/I wanted to be a nightingale." Lorca walks around Manhattan wrestling with his deepest longings and fears.
