Whether as drummer and bandleader of Oceanikz, a solo artist, or a music promoter, Ambonwhena's impact on Moluccan rap, hip hop and pop music can be called revolutionary. His productions helped shape several trends in two decades. His music became known in the early '00s with the songs Maluku Panggil Pulang, Dasz Mijn Leven, Padede and Nona Maluku. And the compilation album Molukka Island Vibes volume 1 & 2, featuring various rap and r&b artists with origins from the Moluccas.
A decade later, in the genre Lagu Timur, he made hits on YouTube with artists such as Ona Hetharua (Candu), Fresly Nikijuluw and Bianca Boeloerditty ( Tunggu Beta Kele ) and Chaken Supusepa (Rindu Ambon Remix).
Ambonwhena's focus shifted over the years from leading his band and rapping, to producing music for other artists. His music influences range from hardcore rap and hip hop, to r&b, rock, reggae and UK garage.
With Oceanikz, he made new modern versions of the traditional Papuan songs Ina
Firumi and Apuse, and of various Moluccan songs in the Jazz-Rock and Pacific Reggae genre. And
collaborated with the group Shine Of Black.
His contribution, both musically and culturally, to create stages and platforms for Moluccan and Pacific acts has been established over the past ten years in Amsterdam. With events such as the Moluccan Day on Kwaku and Pacific Roots Fest, of which he is the initiator and organizer.
