Among Authors is a Seattle-based art rock band who write songs that feel like soundtracks to your most vulnerable moments. Led by singer, songwriter, and producer Ian Ketterer — who was born with no ear or thumb on his right side and later at the young age of 23, survived open heart surgery due to a rare aneurysm — the band’s music is deeply shaped by real-life resilience and the search for true happiness in an anxiety-filled landscape. Life experiences are what shape us all, and Among Authors strive to be honest and true through music as their artistic outlet.
Among Authors first gained national attention when they were invited to perform on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts, with Boilen saying, “I was so knocked out by their performance I invited them to play at my desk.” Their stunning live performances also earned them performances on KEXP and Emmy award-winning live concert series Sessions In Place. They’ve received praise from NPR’s Bob Boilen, KEXP, and Billboard Magazine.
Among Authors has recently faced music streaming difficulties, as their two newest songs "Fears We Hold" and "Know I Was" were taken down from all streaming platforms due to illegal bot streaming activity, which the band was actively trying not to be involved in. This is currently a growing widespread issue in the music industry, and Among Authors is actively working on fighting back and getting the word out on the illegal bot farms that are destroying artists.
