Andrew Lang is a Canadian progressive house and trance producer from Toronto, ON. A former high school teacher, Andrew’s path to the world of electronic music has been an interesting one.
“I started playing piano when I was 6, but it was guitar that I was always interested in. I got my first guitar when I was 12 and was involved in bands as a lead guitar player throughout high school and into university. It was there I first discovered house and trance music. I always knew it was only a matter of time before I started writing that too, it just took me a while to get there. During teacher’s college I opened up Garage Band that came with my Mac and thought ‘what the hell, lets give it a shot.’ The result was about 10 very rough tracks, but the ideas were solid. However my music life took a detour when I got a fulltime job teaching high school for 3 years. After leaving the school I finally decided to focus on doing this properly. I picked up Ableton, read and watched a ton of articles on music production, add a whole lot of trial and error, and 4 months later the result was my first EP.”
Influenced by everything from the groovy side of tech house and techno, to the lush soundscapes of old school trance, the result is the perfect blend of driving percussion lines, massive leads, soaring melodies, and epic build ups. It is through the expert melding of these diverse musical elements that Andrew Lang has shaped a truly unique sound.
