Angel Taylor cut her teeth in various coffee shops in Southern California, where she honed her mix of mainstream pop/rock and singer/songwriter balladry. Several weeks before her freshman year of college, she made contact with producer <a href="spotify:artist:2o4opMdnfioclB47Mo61CB">Mikal Blue</a>, who had previously worked with such marketable songwriters as <a href="spotify:artist:6aZyMrc4doVtZyKNilOmwu">Colbie Caillat</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:2aIPQyKrN3oVev1kHudiai">Brendan James</a>. <a href="spotify:artist:2o4opMdnfioclB47Mo61CB">Blue</a> took an interest in Taylor and flew her to New York City, where he helped negotiate a contract with Aware/Columbia Records.
