Originally from the Appalachian mountains of Virginia, Anya Hinkle's music is steeped in the tones of folk and bluegrass and seasoned by travels across the world with vivid storytelling, vibrant musicianship and arresting honesty. An Americana singer-songwriter now residing in the roots music mecca Asheville, NC, Anya won Merlefest's 2019 Chris Austin Song Contest and 2023 USA Songwriting Competition, and 2022 International Acoustic Music Awards runner-up.
She previously recorded five studio albums with bands Dehlia Low (Rebel Records) and Tellico (Organic Records). No Depression says of her 2021 solo debut "Eden and Her Borderlands" “...one of roots music’s gems.” She “effortlessly delivers…” (Pop Matters) with "...vivid songwriting and transportive vocals…” (Folk Alley).
Her current project, OCEANIA, produced by Kevin Moloney (U2, Sinéad O’Conner), features Irish guitar legend John Doyle and slide guitar master Billy Cardine. The album releases in 2024 on Red Parlor Records.
Hinkle has played many of the major US roots festivals including MerleFest, Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival, and Bristol Rhythm & Roots; in Europe she has headlined at La Roche and Grenna Bluegrass festivals. Her 2018 record "Relics and Roses" (w/ Tellico, Organic Records) debuted at #2 on the folk DJ charts with a #1 single in her song “Courage for the Morning.”
