Guitarist and multi string instrumentalist/composer Asgeir Asgeirsson was born and raised in Kopavogur Iceland. Asgeir did his music education in Iceland and Amsterdam in the Netherlands focusing on jazz and Pop music. 2009 marked the beginning of Asgeir’s study of Eastern music. He has travelled to Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Iran and Morocco to study the music tradition and many string instruments including bouzouki and oud. Asgeir has five solo albums in his name, two jazz albums and his main project in recent years, where he takes his own heratage on a journey to the east. Icelandic folksongs with new interludes and extra melodies written by Asgeir inspired by his studied of Eastern music. In 2017 he realeased Two sides of Europe with collaborator Yurdal Tokcan, also featuring on that album is Göksel Baktagir, Derya Türkan and Oray Yay. In 2018 he released Travelling through cultures with collaborator Borislav Zgurovski and Thrakia ensamble from Plovdiv Bulgaria. In 2020 he realeased the last episode of the trilogy, Persian path with some of Tehran’s finest musicians led by Hamid Khansari. On the Icelandic folksongs trilogy Sigríður Thorlacius handles most of the vocals, but also with special vocal appearance are: Samin Ghorbani, Egill Ólafsson, Yurdal Tokcan and Plovdiv female choir. Asgeir has featured on over hundred albums, toured Europe with various projects and was named town artist of Kopavogur in 2016 to name few in his 30 year carrier as a musician.
