The musical cultures of Mali in West Africa, including the traditional music of the Wassoulou, Tamachek, Bambara and Songhai, are mixed with with Jamaican reggae by guitarist, percussionist and vocalist Askia Modibo. A former member of Super Tentemba, an offshoot of Les Ambassadeurs, and the guitarist for Alpha Blondy's pre-Solar System band, Modibo has continued to expand his legacy as the leader of his own group, Tjiladek, and as a soloist. After releasing three cassettes in Mali, featuring Tjiladek, Modibo recorded his first internationally-released album, "Wass Reggae" in Paris with the aid of highly respected West Africa producer Ibrahima Sylla. ~ Craig Harris, Rovi
