¡Ay Carmela! are an indie rock band based in Bristol and Swansea, inspired by the likes of PJ Harvey, Nilüfer Yanya, and Warpaint. Their sound is rooted in 90s alternative rock, with intricate drum grooves, and lyrics that explore memory and change. Their latest EP, Standing Where You Stood, out in May 2025, with songs that reflect on the past from the perspective of an older, present self. It follows the release of their second album, Tokens, in 2023, which brought in jazzier elements than their previous work.

The band originally formed in London with a different lineup, releasing their first album, Working Weeks, in 2016. The songs explore unsatisfying jobs, housing, and relationships, with an upbeat punk / indie pop sensibility.
