Sérgio Alves is a producer, composer and keyboard player who combines jazz, hip-hop, afrobeat, funk, and electronic music creating sonic landscapes in an unrestrained exploratory way.
Also known as AzarAzar, was born in southern Germany, grew up in Porto between pianos and vinyl records. His first dream was to become a painter, somewhere between Basquiat and Pollock, although his taste for extravagant bold colors was perhaps inherited from his cousin Carmen Miranda.
Started working as a local DJ at the age of 11, at his parents club. It was by this time that his love for Afro-American music started to grow.
First came disco and house music, followed by soul and funk, Suddenly stumbled upon Mr Herbie Hancock, and then Miles, who became one of his obsessions! Coltrane, Monk, all these jazz cats... Hip-Hop also came to scene, still on time to make him spend his lunch money on records... has played with some Portuguese main acts, such as Capicua, Marta Ren & The Groovelvets, New Max, Gileno Santana, among many others...Released his first original work on Jazzego in 2020, an EP with two original tracks, and remixes by Esa, K15, and Minus & MRDolly. Following a bitches brew reworks ep.
2023, is the moment for releasing his first LP, Cosmic Drops, a space journey where you can dance to the sound of afrobeat, drum’n’bass, hip-hop, or just chill listening to some soulful afro-latin driven sounds...
