Bristol’s beloved scene favorites, Belishas, navigate a unique space between delicate melancholy and raw catharsis. Since their formation in 2019, the band has evolved through various phases, ultimately settling into a sound that blends gritty alt-rock with modern, experimental influences.
Their music draws on diverse inspirations from the second half of the 20th century, with elements ranging from the abrasive guitars of The Velvet Underground to the haunting atmosphere of early The Cure, alongside more contemporary references like Iceage and Cate Le Bon.
In November 2023, Belishas released their debut EP, Before The Crash, which propelled them to new heights within the Bristol scene. Recorded at the iconic local venue, The Louisiana, the EP garnered attention with placements on several Spotify editorial playlists and a sold-out release show at The Lanes.
Following this success, the band quickly released the standalone single, For Winter (I’ll Take Heed). The track showcases a dynamic blend of African-inspired drum rhythms and guitar and bass motifs reminiscent of Talking Heads, adding a fresh dimension to their sound.
Building on this momentum, Belishas performed at SWX for Dot to Dot Bristol and supported acts like Egyptian Blue, The Last Dinner Party, Johnny Borrell, Automotion, Moreish Idols, Home Counties and Panic Shack
In 2025, the band expanded to a six-piece, incorporating new members and embracing a more electronically-influenced direction.
