Homework are a quintessential Glasgow band - overstimulated and a little rough round the edges but with a pretty streak and a big, sentimental heart. They make fuzzy 90’s-indebted indie rock that’s bursting with ideas and sounds like home.
Twin songwriters Michael Newton and Santiago Taberna trade-off driving lopsided anthems and fuzzy baroque pop experiments while rhythm section Lizzie Quirke and Andrew Gordon provide a loping centre of gravity, occasionally throwing in a vocal turn of their own.
Bang Here if Stuck, their debut album, delivers a kind of enthusiastic chaos where everything fits exactly where it should. Recorded at Chime Studios in Glasgow with Melissa Brisbane, the band tracked the core of the album live in order to best capture the playful spontaneity of their gigs. Drawing from the likes of Pavement, Teenage Fanclub, The Vaselines and Urusei Yatsura, it offers a familiar sound that’s easy to love, punctuated by oddball diversions that lead somewhere unpredictable and unique.
