From the dank depths of the Brooklyn subways to the spiritually orgasmic heights of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Ben Musser's SXSW Official indie roots project BENYARO carves a unique path with one rule: make great art. Honest, vulnerable art.

Contemporary artist Neil Jenney once told Musser that in order to create something truly unique, one must shut out the influence of others. For Jenney, it meant stop looking at the work of others, including your peer’s and for Musser, it translated to taking a break from listening to new music, including his favorite bands’ new albums. Difficult, of course, but to fully realize one’s potential as a unique artist, one must focus on what is inside and let it out; untainted, undistracted, and without worry of what others around you are doing or creating.

This interaction sticks with Musser and guides him like the North Star as he remains resolute and keenly focused on realizing his potential as a unique artist.

Benyaro is Ben Musser’s indie-roots project, which in his words, he formed “to expand the boundaries of acoustic music.”

"punk-Americana...astutely written" - NO DEPRESSION

"Benyaro excels in the rougher, funkier edges of Americana.” - TWANGVILLE

"Americana...with a splash of gritty soul and punk." - MOUNTAIN XPRESS
