Since their formation in 2018, Brisbane-based three-piece Big Dinner have cemented themselves as a popular fixture in Brisbane’s indie rock scene. Synthesizing their influences from artists such as Rolling Blackouts C.F, Julia Jacklin and DMA’s, vocalist Rory Watkins along with lead-guitarist Tom Jones and drummer Ben Slater have succeeded in creating a light and refreshing sonic blend that has charmed audiences from the Fortitude Valley to Byron Bay.
Starting out in Watkins' backyard shed, Big Dinner’s experimental, genre defying and unpretentious sound has received a ringing endorsement with listeners, with the band amassing over 500,000 streams across the internet since the release of their 2019 debut single, Smoke Out. Leveraging this success online, along with the popularity of their sell out live sets, Big Dinner have succeeded in staying true to their DIY ethos, remaining completely independently managed.
Their success has not been limited to Spotify, the band has shared the stage with iconic Australian indie artists like Pacific Avenue, Shag Rock, Daily J, Cousin Tony’s Brand-New Firebird and The Moving Stills. Although COVID put an end to the boys first international tour, they have nonetheless rocked sets from Big Sound to Valley Fiesta and played sold-out headline shows across staple Brisbane venues including The Zoo, The Brightside, Black Bear Lodge, Lefty’s Music Hall and the Bearded Lady.
