If you were a thirty something multi-instrumentalist who grew up by the beach in sun drenched towns to a soundtrack of nineties grunge and classic folk rock before maturing into post-punk, shoe gaze and indie rock, you might have have started a band who sounds a bit like Big Summer. B.S. is the lovechild of Portuguese singer songwriter Vasco Batista, who has been writing, singing and performing for as long as he can remember. One thing has always been present: the need to experiment with different styles.
Vasco spent several years of writing all sorts of music (from acoustic folk to rock and roll, from electronic dance music to instrumental post-rock) and then finally decided on a sound he wanted to stick with; Big Summer´s mix of warm, relaxed, sun-drenched melodies with a hint of 90's grunge.
Their shows are heterogeneous, teetering on the brink of hazy, sun bleached surf pop but then surprising you with a nod to punk; always counter-balancing light-hearted or bittersweet melodies with knowing riffs and a more avant-rock sensibility; at times dense and at others playful. ~ Adam Kershaw
