Japan born Malaysian-American Billie Blue Blackstone has spent the past decade in Kuala Lumpur, writing and performing at grassroots underground shows and jazz venues. In her debut single, "Persimmon Tree", Billie considers themes of identity and growing up through a psychedelic and nostalgic lens; recalling the sense of magic and mischief that led the way we experienced the world in childhood.
From 2016-2022, Billie fronted the folk rock band, Billie Blue & the Nowhere Men. Together, they released an album, Find Gold (2018) which spawned 3 singles.
Growing up in rural Japan, Billie was lucky enough to be exposed to live shows and a broad spectrum of sounds by tagging along on her musician mother's gigs and pouring through her father’s extensive CD collection. From there, she retained the core of her influences; folk, acid-rock, vintage blues and their colorful in-betweens.
In 2025, Billie toured Kansai, Japan, after being invited to perform at an underground venue in Osaka. During this tour, she promoted her debut single, Persimmon Tree. Billie received the Festival Director’s Choice Award at Malaysia’s Short + Sweet Arts Festival (2023) for “Persimmon Tree”.
