Black Square was formed as a Hardcore Punk trio in 2002. Influenced by bands like Operation Ivy, Bad Brains and The Clash, Black Square's lyrical focus aimed at attempting to raise consciousness concerning political, environmental, cultural, and economic issues, many specific to Hawaii. Their sound has evolved over the years taking on a heavier influence from the two tone sounds of England, and various reggae and punk eras. Black Square has toured across North America over a dozen times, participated in the 2011 Vans Warped Tour and has also toured across Japan. Their most recent album was release in 2019 and was titled "To The Hills."
