Black Tusk emerged from Savannah, GA in 2005, forging their signature “swamp metal”—a gritty mix of sludge, punk, and stoner rock. The original trio of Andrew Fidler, Jonathan Athon, and James May built a reputation through relentless touring and early DIY releases before signing to Relapse Records for 2010’s Taste the Sin, Set the Dial in 2011 and Tend No Wounds in 2013. After Athon’s tragic death in 2014, the band pressed on, releasing Pillars of Ash in 2016. T.C.B.T. was released in 2018 with Corey Barhorst on bass and vocals and adding guitarist Chris “Scary” Adams shortly after. In 2024, Black Tusk re-emerged as a quartet, with bassist Derek Lynch joining for The Way Forward, a ferocious statement of evolution and resilience.
