Bless The Mad is producer/creative director, Ibrahem Hasan, and producer/multi-instrumentalist, Matthew Rivera–both from Chicago–both children of the Golden Age of hip-hop. They met 20 years ago at a flea market digging for records to sample–competitively at first–but discovering they had the same ear for jazz, soul, and other out-sounds, soon began collaborating–first on 90s-style boom-bap–then by veering off into uncharted waters–picking up instruments and old recording gear and developing a new aesthetic. The group’s self-titled debut is an audio collage that pays tribute to their youth in Chicago and their journey through musical discovery.
