Blu James is a British vocalist whose voice has powered UK dancefloors for three decades. Her journey began in the early 1990s, when she won a songwriter competition through a London young people’s music project — a start that led straight into session and feature work with some of the UK’s most influential producers.

She’s best known as the featured voice on Basement Jaxx’s “Red Alert” (XL Recordings, 1999), a UK Top 5 and US #1 Dance Club hit later reworked by Erick Morillo & Harry “Choo Choo” Romero, The Cube Guys and Mihalis Safras. Her catalogue also includes New Horizons’ garage/house anthem “It’s My House,” “I Wanna Know” with Restless Natives, recordings for MCA, and vocals for UK ska band Maroon Town — an urban, soulful sound moving fluidly across house, garage, R&B, reggae, disco and funk.
