Blue Rose was a bluegrass combo that continued to break the traditional, male modes of the genre with its all-female lineup. The group was comprised of dobroist <a href="spotify:artist:6lLz34wZ76saeHvfWh1X7G">Sally Van Meter</a>, renowned fiddler <a href="spotify:artist:4TFUM3dwVVxsJ6vCnMDVCb">Laurie Lewis</a>, banjoist <a href="spotify:artist:6C0lsIh3QzXKHdFxFy3DAw">Cathy Fink</a>, the guitar and mandolin of <a href="spotify:artist:4e8XsLK4AjKKDeUi1Ui4R1">Marcy Marxer</a>, and bassist <a href="spotify:artist:0fJwKh1jYgT5Fz6PzplBsv">Molly Mason</a>. Blue Rose's lone release was a self-titled affair on <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Sugar+Hill%22">Sugar Hill</a> in 1988; <a href="spotify:artist:6C0lsIh3QzXKHdFxFy3DAw">Fink</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:4TFUM3dwVVxsJ6vCnMDVCb">Lewis</a> contributed lead vocals to the project, which included a swinging take on the obscure <a href="spotify:artist:1FClsNYBUoNFtGgzeG74dW">Hank Williams</a> number "Blue Love." ~ Johnny Loftus
