Fiercely protected and quietly celebrated, the songs of Mara Lee Miller have rarely met live audiences in recent years. The occasional new listener found Bosque Brown’s ageless country folk in soundtracks to films like The Old Man and the Gun. It’s those first fans of Miller’s 2005 debut on Burnt Toast Vinyl who know best how special it is to hear her voice in a room that falls silent.

One of the first to hear Miller sing in a Denton living room was Jeremy Buller. Then he was an unknown guitarist; he would go on to play with Sarah Jaffe, OK Sweetheart, Sophia Duccini and other artists whose work was clarified in his gentle ear as a producer and sought-after multi-instrumentalist. Miller and Buller reunited with a new wall-of-sound approach after the self-released Us and Little Sea crystallized a partnership between them that continues to evolve. With fall 2021 came an opportunity to witness the pair live for the first time since 2013; those experiments renewed the affection of fans old and new and made way for more this spring.
