Boys Club

Over a bucket of chicken and some light softball, bosom buddies Noah, James, and Joe invited guitar player and sandwich maven Shawn to join their ranks. Soon, Long Beach bucket drummer Ace rounded out the outfit.


Bobby fleshed out the group, providing bass harmonies and mod-inspired rhythm guitar, and the Club went on to write and record their debut EP, <a href="spotify:album:4Jk1NQNWyw895XnOJ2JY0o" data-name="Every Good Boy Does Fine">Every Good Boy Does Fine</a>.


After its founding, some split releases followed. The Club&#39;s membership shuffled: Bobby resigned, an untold cadre of electronic and analog drummers enrolled and fled. The Club returned to the studio and recorded their first full-length, House, incorporating sounds inspired by such acts as <a href="spotify:artist:046wtejcUX9rhlzw2nlveT" data-name="The Soft Boys">The Soft Boys</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3oDbviiivRWhXwIE8hxkVV" data-name="The Beach Boys">The Beach Boys</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:4leNVM0TMKp7ZdJVH4c33d" data-name="The Boys">The Boys</a>.


After a video of the Club&#39;s cover of the Warren Zevon hit &#34;Excitable Boy” wound up online, Showtime used the song on the <a href="spotify:playlist:46Wv0nKmYQAunDx7koD4Rl" data-name="Californication Soundtrack">Californication Soundtrack</a>.


More covers followed as the Boys bent their “No Girls Aloud” rule to cover <a href="spotify:artist:0x83OBqixqdCHnStP5VMcn" data-name="The Shirelles">The Shirelles</a>, but justified it with <a href="spotify:artist:3L13VZ9rCpmR1p7p6A2WGu" data-name="The Knickerbockers">The Knickerbockers</a> “Lies.” They also brag about the Bully Boys in their rendition of <a href="spotify:artist:2BGRfQgtzikz1pzAD0kaEn" data-name="Elvis Costello">Elvis Costello</a>’s “Hand in Hand.”


During the group’s decade-long hiatus , the Boys continue tinkering, recording piecemeal, long distance, or pursuing other projects, with <a href="spotify:artist:5LVNTbtEEO1UISTXnl8d5e" data-name="The Young Rochelles">The Young Rochelles</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0nRgXUbjrCGbuZwcK1cWTD" data-name="Bonus Eventus">Bonus Eventus</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:0PsPw7msVbHlolAjQhW5hY" data-name="Hot Dad">Hot Dad</a>.
