Brian "Head" Welch was born June 19, 1970, and grew up in Bakersfield, CA. He began playing guitar at the age of 11. He was a founding member of the alternative metal band Korn, with which he made the albums Korn (1994), Life Is Peachy (1996), Follow the Leader (1998), Issues (1999), Untouchables (2002), and Take a Look in the Mirror (2003). All were platinum or multi-platinum sellers. In addition to playing guitar and singing, he wrote songs for Korn and Issues. In February 2005, he resigned from the band after becoming a Christian. Overcoming substance abuse problems, he devoted himself to charity and to raising his daughter as a single father. His autobiography, Save Me from Myself, was published by HarperCollins in July 2007 and became a best-seller. A second book, Washed by Blood (actually an edited version of Save Me from Myself aimed at a younger audience) appeared on June 24, 2008. Welch's debut solo album, also called Save Me from Myself, was released on his Driven Music Group label on September 9, 2008. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi
