An elegiac tribute to painter L.S. Lowry penned by Michael Coleman so impressed his producer Kevin Parrott that the two briefly recorded as a duo. "Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs" was a surprise U.K. number one in 1978, but Brian and Michael were unable to exploit its success with a follow-up hit. Coincidentally, the vocal backing on the disc was provided by the St. Winifred's School Choir, who would later enjoy a U.K. number one of their own in 1980 with "There's No-One Quite Like Grandma." After splitting with "Brian," Coleman continued his writing career, penning <a href="spotify:artist:76o4kCpWMmBGl8jIYfRHTk">Ken Dodd</a>'s 1981 hit "Hold My Hand." Kevin Parrott died on October 9, 2023.
