The quote “Music is the vernacular of the human soul” by Geoffrey Latham exemplifies Damion Grant most popularly known to many as Briggy Benz. Briggy defines music as an art that expresses harmony, experience, thoughts and wisdom. Throughout his years in the dancehall arena, Briggy has showcased talent beyond delivering quality music. In more recent years, Briggy has proven to many that he is an entertainer who embodies the true meaning of being a dancehall artist possessing versatility and lyrics in great quantity. Mr. Benz’s colossal talent coupled with his friendly and down to earth personality provides him with a cutting advantage of appealing to mass audience of diverse culture and demographics.
In 1999 Briggy was introduced to the dancehall platform by mentor and family member Spragga Benz. Though Briggy was known of a more behind the scenes dancehall artist writing a few of Spragga’s popular songs, it was the first the two collaborated to record a song. The two Benzes in collaboration with their Red Square colleagues voiced “Gi we dem, ” a song which became a local hit receiving heavy rotation on local radio stations. The constant rotation of thte video on local television channels provided Briggy with visual exposure allowing advocates of dancehall to attach face behind the name.
In an effort to bridge the gap in dancehall music as well as nurture and preserve the culture of dancehall, the sky will be his limit.
