When Elliot Korte talks about music, it’s not a hobby or even a curiosity it’s more of a vocation that he works at determinedly. Even when his hands aren’t on guitar strings or piano keys, his mind tends to his compositions. His lush and detailed instrumentation, poetic lyricism, and intense originality are a product of his talent, vision and determination. Which is why it’s curious that for the majority of Korte’s life he’s been reluctant to share it.
During an impactful gap year between high school and college, Korte pursued his music, computer programming, and acting. He played Ted Danson’s son on the show Damages and had parts in a few indie films. By the time Korte started college, where he studied computer science, his first album The Educated Youth was mostly done but he hadn’t shown it to anyone. It wasn’t until writing and releasing 2019’s “Give In” that Korte had a creative revelation about sharing his work with the world. “I wrote that song and it was definitely a moment where I came to terms with what I hadn't been doing, and what I needed to be doing. That was a big realization.” After years of pursuing other passions, Korte is embracing his relationship with music, not wanting to waste any time in celebrating it publicly. He now realizes opening up both emotionally and creatively are important exercises in understanding himself. As Bryan Away, Korte is using music to untangle and further the limits of his expression.
