bugmaker

bugmaker is a rock/electronic/experimental band from Phoenix Arizona. Formed in 2023 as a hardware electronic duo, they quickly expanded to a three-piece band while retaining a strong electronic element. The three members have backgrounds as both instrumentalists and electronic musicians, which drives their unique balance of these elements.

Wayne Jones (vocals, guitar, bass), AJ Mangen (drums), and Austen Mack (synthesizers) guide you through an abandoned mall by the dying light of a billboard. Noisy glitches and crushed fragments of sound hang in the air, as introspective lyrics drift over angular, textured guitar. Syncopated, energetic drums churn beneath low-bit melodies and dreamy, demolished pads, always staying rooted in thoughtful composition. The interplay between human performance, electronic timbres, and tight integration with the digital realm gives bugmaker’s sound a depth beyond their slim lineup.

They draw inspiration from a wealth of sources including noise rock, classic jazz, drum n bass, math rock, shoegaze, ambient and experimental music, blending these disparate influences in a collaborative songwriting process. Their sound can be difficult to categorize, but is easy to understand.
