For his milestone 10th album, Artichoke (2025) Capitol K presents a return to off-kilter vocal electronica.

Known for his eclectic and exploratory approach to sound. Since the late 1990s, Capitol K has continually reinvented his music, moving fluidly across various sonic landscapes. Early releases on Planet Mu and XL Recordings positioned him as a key figure in the underground electronica scene, blending found sound, lo-fi tape edits and sampling with traditional instrumentation and vocals. In 2014, his focus shifted toward Mediterranean themes, exploring mythical and sonic narratives that draw from the region's landscapes and folklore. This was first heard on his 2018 album Goatherder and the 2020 Birdtrapper EP, works that combined hand-made flute and reeds with drum machine and bass. His ninth album, Local Popular Song Vol.1 (2024), reinterpreted 1970s Maltese 7” records through a haze of analog effects, 8-bit filters, and vintage keyboards. In a lo-fi homage to island life.

As his sound evolved, so did his creative pursuits, which include starting his own label, Faith & Industry. He’s become a key mentor in the independent music community, founding recording spaces in East London. This culminated in the celebrated Total Refreshment Centre, where he spent the last decade engineering seminal albums for acts like The Comet Is Coming, Alabaster DePlume, Dry Cleaning, Mermaid Chunky and Thurston Moore Group.
