One of the most beautiful and emotionally penetrating voices of contemporary fado, a leading figure of the new generation of fado singers, Carla Pires invents a decidedly modern fado, with refined arrangements and jazz influences.
She began her singing career in 1993, participating in several musical projects, recording soundtracks, and playing roles as an actress for TV series in Portugal. For three years (2002-2005), she played the young Amalia Rodrigues in the successful Portuguese musical about this fado idol.
Carla Pires statement as Fado singer happens in 2004, when she joined the Portuguese artist agency and label Ocarina Music.
