Rão Kyao is a unique figure in contemporary Portuguese music. A flautist and composer, he is known for integrating influences from traditional Portuguese music with oriental sounds, especially from India and China, through the use of the bamboo flute as the central instrument of his artistic expression. With a long and pioneering music career from the 1970's to the present, Rão returns to address fado in his most recent album “Fado Bambu - No Som da Palavra” which consists of the presentation of themes linked to classical fado together with original and unreleased compositions, associated with this musical language of ours, so dear and motivating for Rão Kyao. “Fado has strong roots, but at the same time it also gives us the possibility of connecting to our roots, creating new paths.” R.K.
