Carol Sipula, born March 21 1989, is a South African singer and songwriter. Born
in Alexandra, Johannesburg and raised in Tembisa and Birchliegh, Kempton Park. Carol S performed in various singing and dancing
competitions as a child. Child to Nunu and George Sipula (late), and oldest of three siblings (brother
and sister), music was something that was always a part of their household growing up.
Her musical journey started at a primary school camp at Ashbury primary school, as she gathered
the courage to sing Mariah Carey’s ‘’Hero’’ in front of her fellow students and she’s never looked
back since.
Her sound is influenced by 90’s RnB, Neo Soul and Hip
Hop. She uses her music as a way of expression or
rather as she explains it: “I write to get things out or
sometimes to say things I’d never say to a person
directly.”
It has taken Carol over 10 years to finally pursue her
musical career as she had to go through a lot of soul
searching and finding her identity in society after her
father passed when she was 13 years old. She finally
feels at home with music again.
“I don’t think I’ve found my sound yet, I am still
experimenting and will probably take on many shapes
as I go along.” Carol Sipula
