CART, formerly known as Contemporary Art, is a band from Cibubur, East Jakarta, formed in 2019. Describing their sound as “dreamo,” the band blends sad, angsty adolescence with dreamy guitar tones, rough textures, and emotionally driven songwriting.
Under the Contemporary Art name, the band released “Life Sucks, Good Night” (2019), “A Love Song, I Guess?” (2022), and the EP “Glazed” (2022), capturing the restless energy of youth through reverb-heavy guitars and bittersweet melodies.
After a three-year hiatus, the band returned in 2025 with the maxi-single “A Ghost’s Bitterness in Its Charming Home,” introducing a heavier and more experimental direction shaped by shoegaze, post-grunge, nu-metal, hardcore, and the band’s emo roots.
In 2026, “Pain.fm” pushed that evolution further. Built around drum machines, sampling, glitchy autotuned vocals, noise, feedback, and a skramz-like climax, the song explores guilt, isolation, and emotional exhaustion while moving the band into darker and less predictable territory.
Following “Pain.fm,” Contemporary Art became CART, a new name for the same band, carrying its past forward while opening a new chapter in its sound.
