Castro is an artist and producer based in Nairobi, Kenya. His music represents a fusion of different genres, from Alt to Pop, while maintaining a distinct, modern, 'African' sound.
Although beginning his musical journey in 2017, Castro officially released his first two singles '<a href="spotify:track:6JaEpufpuAiwD39m7NZY5u" data-name="Lady from the South">Lady from the South</a>' & '<a href="spotify:track:75Vv5R7w8afuegKOwXs7aX" data-name="Rôva">Rôva</a>' in early 2021. The two songs were alternative takes on the afro-beat genre that soon debuted on national radio.
He went on to release his debut summer EP, '<a href="spotify:album:7b3R9FgaNr6sR2d9e0DsgS" data-name="Triple Take, Vol. 1">Triple Take, Vol. 1</a>' in July of 2021 which featured dance-worthy tracks like 'Big Mood' & '<a href="spotify:track:5MvOZ9K2txgkqxjmDdnFc1" data-name="Soweto Sunsets">Soweto Sunsets</a>'. Track two off the EP '<a href="spotify:track:4zimC5LQ1mKCWMyGuef2lv" data-name="Gangsta Dance">Gangsta Dance</a>' was later soundtracked in a Kenyan episode of the BBC documentary series ‘Africa Eye’. Castro also had his first international collaboration that year, teaming up with South African pop artist <a href="spotify:artist:5Rz0qAhBjy51WzACUnf6lf" data-name="Brotherbae">Brotherbae</a> on a melodic remix of '<a href="spotify:album:6mIluCXMj5AIcZsX84nj1B" data-name="Big Mood (Remix)">Big Mood (Remix)</a>'.
In his latest EP, '<a href="spotify:album:31ISMmTdreHPGIZd9ddM4M" data-name="Triple Take, Vol. II">Triple Take, Vol. II</a>' Castro explores both the summer theme and his artistic ability more in depth, with songs like '<a href="spotify:album:7KqQY6tnLwSJMY5ifZbMTB" data-name="Area Code">Area Code</a>' and '<a href="spotify:track:03ihazIgZQERyUB2BGAeLb" data-name="4AM in Ibiza">4AM in Ibiza</a>' quickly revealing his true vocal range. Growing up, he was introduced to the swagger of jazz and neo-soul, as well as the up-beat nature of African genres like Rhumba and Benga, a diverse mix of sounds he successfully brings out on the contemplative track '<a href="spotify:track:2Ic7w86xvSS1tSauhVM1PQ" data-name="Summers Over">Summers Over</a>'.
In a recent interview, Castro mentioned his focus now is to collaborate with artists from other genres and expressing more fully his musical range.
