Cayuco is a Guadalajara, Mexico based music project blending reggae, rock, and alternative sounds with a modern Latin edge. Shaped by a background rooted in punk and metal, along with early exposure to California’s coastal culture, the project balances raw live energy with laid-back West Coast grooves. Drawing from Californian reggae, rocksteady, and Caribbean rhythms, Cayuco creates a sound that feels both familiar and personal.
The project’s foundation was built through years of involvement in Mexico City’s independent music scene. After beginning to play guitar at an early age, Cayuco’s creator studied Audio Engineering in 2014 and became actively involved in live music production while working at Gato Calavera, a respected alternative venue known for hosting influential punk, ska, rockabilly, and metal acts. During this time, he also collaborated in music production with independent artists and labels.
In 2015, his professional path expanded through work with Bulevar Records and the formation of Todos Mueren, a hardcore punk band active in the live circuit that released a demo and a self-titled EP. After relocating to Guadalajara in 2017, his focus shifted toward live sound engineering, while continuing to develop songs inspired by California particularly San Diego and West Coast culture.
Cayuco ultimately emerged from a personal turning point, transforming lived experiences into warm grooves, honest lyrics, and music rooted in freedom, authenticity, and connection.
