Cell7 has been a fixture on the Icelandic hip hop scene for over a decade. She is of Filipino descent and came of age as a defiant and joyful outsider in the Icelandic music industry. Cell7 is known not just for her skilful lyricism and impeccable flow but also for legendary live performances and an uncanny ability to get a crowd dancing and singing—even in the arctic cold of Reykjavík, where an audience’s default position is aloof observation.

This one took its time. I needed to be in the right headspace, feel the right things. It wasn’t something I could force — and when it finally came together, it hit all at once.

Working with Magnús Jóhann and Magnús Trygvason on this was nothing short of alchemy. They brought a certain level of depth, honesty and the correct amount of flex, but at the end of the day it’s just real musical intuition and feeling.

Forever grateful to have had their hands and ears on this.
