Vancouver-based JUNO Award winning rapper and producer Checkmate initially gained recognition as one of the principal performers on the song “Northern Touch” alongside the <a href="spotify:artist:74LVRFFZZEDYha9qZXsPHF" data-name="Rascalz">Rascalz</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5P2rwRBgIN450RaJxdjYdA" data-name="Kardinal Offishall">Kardinal Offishall</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6Ku2nSbcjRann6nTPimcFS" data-name="Choclair">Choclair</a>, and Thrust. Using the success of “Northern Touch” as a springboard for a solo career, Checkmate has released multiple solo and collaborative projects, including “R.A.W.” featuring Eminem cohort <a href="spotify:artist:6DVipHzYsPlIoA0DW8Gmns" data-name="Royce Da 5'9"">Royce Da 5'9"</a> and LA‘s <a href="spotify:artist:5OsTd4JBco0XckFuy3vCql" data-name="DJ Revolution">DJ Revolution</a> which resulted in another JUNO nomination.
