A native of San Antonio, TX, Chente Barrera began his music career during the early '90s as a tejano session staple, lending backing vocals and drums to recordings from artists including <a href="spotify:artist:2ytFwBb0KBIUGtnsIyC5mG">Juan Manuel</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:197xMd0z26yW8I52WeuhqT">Laura Canales</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:274Y6HvCIUkt5pi7jPWRke">Gary Hobbs</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:7fG69e2Dr1QXQW3MdIzUWT">Shelly Lares</a>. After touring with <a href="spotify:artist:4YqSt6mlUQUKuPLsMTDWTC">Jay Perez</a> and composing material for <a href="spotify:artist:4EEZg8R3dxbTCCQ1DVWtHg">Bobby Pulido</a>, Barrera made his solo debut in 1998 with the album Puro Taconazo. Barrera released three more albums over the next eight years.
