Choby is a Cypriot singer-songwriter and producer based in Manchester. After writing one hundred and fifty songs in one summer at the age of thirteen, Choby quickly realized his life purpose was to write and perform music. Having immersed himself in the Yorkshire music scene, Choby decided that he wanted to be more than just a local talent, and set his sights on Manchester to find bigger audiences.
Inspired by his imaginary visions of the Mediterranean, the golden fields of his homeland and the fig trees in his grandmother’s garden, Choby’s Cohen-esque lyrics are delivered with powerful vocal performances, often drawing comparisons to the intensity of Jeff Buckley and Thom Yorke. The stark contrast between Choby’s upbringing in Cyprus and the industrial atmosphere of his new home in Manchester reflects on his music to create beautiful irony and harmony. When asked about his sound, Choby responds “Where else can you hear a Strat, a synth and an Oud harmonize so effortlessly?”.
Even before the release of his debut album SKiN UNTOUCHED, the artist played sold out shows in Hull, Leeds and his hometown Famagusta, followed by appearances at Leeds Jazz Fest and Humber Street Sesh in Hull.
With a new album already in the works, Choby is keen to make a name for himself internationally by sharing his authenticity, distinctive sound, and songwriting ability with a community of Mediterranean Pop enjoyers all around the world.
