James Barrington Stephens is a British vocalist whose journey from cathedral choirs to big band stages has shaped a sound that fuses classical training with timeless swing and modern flair. Raised on a foundation of choral music, James began singing at an early age, performing in cathedral choirs across the UK and internationally. This classical upbringing instilled a love for vocal precision, discipline, and emotion that still defines his performances today.

At 13, everything changed. Sitting on his bed with headphones on, James first discovered Michael Bublé. That moment sparked something new—an instant pull toward the golden era of swing. When he heard Frank Sinatra’s dulcet yet commanding tones for the first time, he was hooked. From that point forward, the smooth phrasing and charisma of the Rat Pack became a guiding influence.

James went on to study at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), refining his voice under expert mentorship. After graduating, he stepped confidently into the world of live performance—becoming the frontman for Manchester’s Not Quite Big Band (NQBB), where his love for swing, jazz, and big band truly came alive.

His debut EP Take My Hand introduced listeners to his unique blend of classic and contemporary, with new music set for release in winter 2025. Whether performing solo or with a full ensemble, James brings a blend of elegance, storytelling, and soul to every note
