Christian Alexander returns with ‘I Want To’, the follow up to recent single, 'I Hate You, I Love You'. Written and recorded during a period of upheaval in Christian’s life – which included a move back from London to Preston and a time of general anxiety – ‘I Want To’ is the second new piece of music to be revealed from the upcoming longer project which marks his return to the lo-fi recording set up on which he recorded his first self-releases, ‘Summer 17’, ‘Summer 19’, and ‘Growing Up’.
Those lo-fi releases earned him attention and praise from such high end producers and artists as Frank Dukes, Kevin Abstract, Mura Masa and Romil Hemnani, led to him recording an album in Malibu for Abstract and Hemnani’s boutique label Video Store, and a follow up for UK label AMF. But rejecting that direction on this new work, Christian returns to the more stripped back, diy feel of those early releases, but with much greater experience and self-awareness underpinning the new songs.
As with the previous single, ‘I Hate You I Love You’, of which the BBC’s William Wolstenholme said “it’s all kind of stripped back isn’t it? very vulnerable on his sounds. Perfect for his kind of doleful voice.. the drums feels so real in that track, it’s like they are being played in the boot of my car. I love it”, ‘I Want To’ is similarly rough around the edges, the product of Christian’s home recording set up, and the cathartic experience of its’ in-the-moment creation.
