Can you produce a whole album as a band without ever having met personally? Well at least for half of the recent CHRONIQUE album “Black Letters, White Ink” this is true because the current line-up Dirk Brinker (song writing, production, instruments) and Jens Wanner (vocals, song writing) started creating songs together in 2020 in full “Home Office” mode after making contact through a musician’s forum at Facebook and chemistry and musical ambitions went together instantly. The studio project CHRONIQUE actually started already 20 years ago with the first four albums being recorded with singer Thomas Kabisch. After Dirk decided to take the project into a new musical direction, a new singer seemed adequate for the subsequent projects. Since that fateful day they have recorded one song after the other, resulting in the completion of the fifth self-produced studio album „Black Letters, White Ink“ after only one year. With this album CHRONIQUE have moved forward from the electronic Dark Wave sound of the predecessors to a guitar driven Alternative Rock project stepping into the footprints of Post Punk Revival bands from the likes of Editors, White Lies and Interpol. Darkness is a permanent companion of the strong, catchy melodies and intensive sounds immanent in all of the twelve songs. Of course the current album is not the end of the story. The first songs for a successor are already in progress.
